The Australian Wind Services team recently visited Cowell Area School to present the school with a $500 cheque as a donation towards their upcoming Middle School Canberra Camp.
Cowell Area School is a small school consisting of approximately 160 students from Reception to Year 12. Situated in the town of Cowell, 500kms NW of Adelaide in a rural, regional setting. Every three years they give the Middle School Students the opportunity to attend an educational camp to the countries capital, Canberra. This is a large scale camp for such a small school and requires a lot of fundraising to make it happen.
Spokesperson for the school’s fundraising committee, Mrs Jane Smith, said that the school needed to raise $40,000 in total for the camp which is due to be held next year. Jane made contact with AWS seeking their support via a financial donation, for which they were only too happy to assist with.
Australian Wind Services has a proud history of contributing to local communities in areas of their working locations and thought it was important to ‘give back’ to the community.
Technicians from AWS attended an assembly at Cowell Area School at the end of last term, where they presented the school with the $500 cheque to the Student Representative Council members who will be attending next year’s Canberra camp.
In response, the students and Acting Principal thanked AWS for their kind donation and invited them back to speak with our senior students about their work and future career paths in the wind farm industry.
